Fisherman with Silver Nets A Composition by Sherif Dahroug Dedicated to Thoth, Lord of Magna Hermopolis The French label Lyre de Mercure proudly unveils the latest piece of Sherif Dahroug's opus Regards sur l'Horizon. This final movement, titled Fisherman with Silver Nets, completes the musical journey initiated with The Scarlet Breath and continued in On the Edge of Dawn. Inspired by the mysteries of Hathor of Dendera, this work is a profound exploration of the interconnection between the visible and invisible worlds, the solar and the lunar realms, and is imbued with majestic lunar symbolism. Thoth: The Fisherman of Souls and Master of Lunar Cycles Through Fisherman with Silver Nets, Sherif Dahroug presents a rare musical interpretation of Thoth, depicted in his sacred ibis form as a cosmic fisherman. More than a divine scribe, Thoth, as the master of lunar cycles and guardian of souls, is portrayed as the weaver of connections between life and death, the cosmos and wandering spirits. His silver nets, crafted not from earthly fibers but from lunar light, gather fragments of Osiris’s divine essence, symbolizing cosmic resurrection and regeneration. A Journey Across the Cosmic Ocean The world of Fisherman with Silver Nets unfolds as an infinite ocean traversed by divine boats, where each note and harmony echoes Thoth’s tireless quest to reclaim the fragments of the dark moon—the reflections of Osiris. Each droplet of light caught in his nets becomes a purified fragment of soul, a symbol of the eternal cycle of life, death, and renewal. As the fisherman of the moon, Thoth plays a pivotal role in the resurrection of Osiris, reaffirming his status as a cosmic guardian of souls and the master of temporal cycles. The Symbolism of the Moon and Osiris In ancient Egyptian tradition, the moon, associated with Osiris, embodies the infinite cycle of death and rebirth. Each night of the dark moon, Thoth embarks aboard the sacred barque in search of Osiris’s scattered fragments, hidden in the shadows. With his silver nets, he patiently gathers these fragments of darkness. The lunar cycle thus becomes a metaphor for divine resurrection—a central theme in this composition. The Culmination of an Exceptional Opus Fisherman with Silver Nets serves as the crowning achievement of Regards sur l’Horizon, an opus in which Sherif Dahroug delves deeply into the mysteries of Egyptian cosmogony. From the setting of light in The Scarlet Breath to the rebirth of Ra in On the Edge of Dawn, this final movement, dedicated to Thoth, transcends musical boundaries. It immerses the listener in a celestial meditation on life, death, and eternity. This piece is a vibrant homage to the power of music to capture cosmic mysteries and forge a bridge between worlds. Through this composition, Sherif Dahroug invites us to explore the soul of Thoth and feel the pulse of the eternal cycles, reaffirming music's pivotal role within the symbolic universe of ancient Egypt.
